MINISTERIAL. Mr W. Downie Stewart is spending a few days at Temuka. Captain P. J. Foster, marine superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company, is visiting Dunedin. , , Dr W. F. Shirer and Mr B. Vial, both of Wellington, arrived in Dunedin on Saturday. They left by yesterday morning’s train for the south en route to Milford Sound by the overland track A cablegram from London states that George Eastman, manufacturer of Kodaks has transferred £200,000 to the trustees of the- Royal Free Hospital, completing the gift of a dental clinic, the work on which will begin shortly. , , Mr H L. Tapley, M.P., has arranged to leave Auckland on February 14 by the Aorangi for Vancouver. From there he will proceed on a pleasure and business trip to England, and will be absent from Dunedin for about five months Some 30 members of the Tararua I ramping Club (Wellington) arrived in Dunedin on Saturday by tram from the north. They were met and welcomed by office bearers and members of the local Tramping Club. They left by the south express yesterday morning en route to Milford Sound. A message from Westport states tha/t Mr W T. Slec, retiring secretary of the Westport Trptting Club, was yesterday presented with an illuminated address as an expression of appreciation of his services to the’ club. Mr Slee has been secretary for 26 -years. His father filled the position before hirh. Mr William S. Short, aged 75 years, formerly Under-secretary of Public AWts, died in Auckland yesterday. Mr Short (savs a Press Association message) had been in failing health since the death on September 26 of his wife, who was knocked down and killed by a motor car.
