HIGH TRADITIONS. WILL BE FULLY MAINTAINED. LONDON, December 24. (Received Dec. 25, at 5.5 p.m.) Viscount Burnham states that he is .confident that the new proprietors will fully maintain the traditions and standards of the Daily Telegraph, which belonged to his family for three generations. —A. and N.Z. Cable. There have been many changes in the ownership of leading London daily newspapers in recent year—The Times, the Daily Chronicle, th e Morning Post, and the Evening Standard, for example, , among the number—but there are few of England’s prominent newspaper men, in all probability, who ever imagined that Viscount Burnham would part with the Daily Telegraph. It is one of England’s greatest newspapers, and has been admirably conducted during its long and honourable history under the ownership of the first Lord Burnham, and then of his able son on the death of the former in 1916. Among th e new owners are Sir Edward Iliffe, C.8.E., M.P., who is interested in a number of weekly newspapers and periodicals, and is a director of Allied Newspapers, Ltd., and Sir Wil. Ham Berrv, a wealthy newspaper owner, who has large interests in some of the leading provincial newspapers and lending periodicals, such as Chambers's Journal, T. P. O’Connor’s Weekly, etc. It would have been interesting had the cable riven the price at which the purchase has Keen accepted, as the deal must have been of considerable magniture.
