FIRES.
DWELLING DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) ASHBURTON, December 26. A six-roomed bouse in Winter s road, Allenton was burnt to the ground on Christmas Eve. It was owned by Mr L NL Dyhrberg, who, with bis family, had left for a holiday at Sumner. The fire was discovered at 10 o’clock, but nothing was saved. The house was outsiders high-pressure area, and the brigade could not attend. The insurances total £550, of which £270 was on the furniture. COUNTY HALL DESTROYED. (Per United Press Associat t n.) WESTPORT, December 26. The county hall at Millerton was burnt down yesterday morning. Only the piano was saved. The building was insured for £ISOO. FOUR-ROOMED DWELLING ABLAZE. At noon on Sunday a fire broke out in a four-roomed wooden dwelling, 126 Carroll street, owned and occupied by Mothier Mickle. The City Brigade received a call at 12.6 p.m., and found that a portion of the house was alight. One room and the roof were damaged. Lhe outbreak, was caused through a receptacle containing hot ashes being left against a wall, sparks or /lames setting the woodwork alight. The building is insured for £260 with the Norwich Union office, but there is no insurance on the contents. . , The Citv Brigade received a second call at 3.45 p.m. on Sunday to the premises of Messrs Brown, Ewing, and Co., Princes street, but its services were not required, as the alarm proved to be a false one. A RUBBISH FIRE. At 6.12 p.m. yesterday the brigade received a call to 030 Cumberland street, where a rubbish fire on property occupied by Mr T. Scott claimed the firemen's attention. No damage was done.
