It was announced in the Senate that 3,800,000 claims in devasted areas have been settled, while 800,000 remain. The population is now 4,646,000, compared with 2,075,000 at the time of the armistice and 4,790,000 before the war. The public buildings rebuilt number 13,236, while 7000 schools are almost entirely re-estab-lished. Communications have improved compared with their pre-war condition, and 7,400,000 acres of shell-filled land are now being cultivated. Restoration will be completed in 1929.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
