PRINCESS THEATRE.
THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME,
As a fitting celebration for the festive season, the new programme at the Princess Theatre to-night will be one of the brightest, jollieat, and most diversified offerings that has been seen for many months. It is, indeed, a special Christmas programmes, and every item is a feature on its own. Stud Foley’s latest revue is, up till now, easily his best. The title is “ A Balkan Tangle ” —a name which suggests vast possibilities for fun and frolic. The setting is ornate and brilliant, and docs full justice to the rest of the production. With an attractive chorus of pretty girls, a pair of clever terpsichorean dancers, a number of good singers, and a rich leavening nf sparkling comedy, there is little left to be desired. In addition to Fullers’ Follies, there arc also two new turns —the Dim Sim Troupe of Chinese entertainers, who give a remarkable display of Oriental magic, music, and comedy, and Flora M’Donald and Dalton Payne, who are. billed as “ two irresistible Scots.”
This appeared in the London Observer 100 years ago:—“Our readers will see that since our attack on th e bestial custom of cigar smoking, which has been followed up by the ‘ John Bull,’ there are symptoms of the nuisance abating. The filthy custom, however, brought ttiteo Cambridge men into a fracas at Vauxlial! last week, and a humiliating appear nice at the police court on the following morning. We hope the ‘ smoking ’ they got from the crowd will be a lesson to them and a -warning to others.”
