A NEW MARITIME CODE. The Italian Government proposes to recast the existing legislation established immediately after the union of Italy in a single State, and which, of course, is no longer suitable to modern social, commercial, and financial conditions. Maritime laws will also be subject to reorganisation. The proposed new maritime code is to contain 1)00 clauses. The greatest part of the decrees issued since the publication of the code now in force will be codified, and there is reason to believe that the recommendations of the Comits Maritime International will be taken into duo consideration. The new code will include important provisions concerning the enrolment of seamen contract, amended according to the desires of shipowners and seafarers.
