John O’Neill, when charged .vith drun kenness, pleaded guilty, stating that it made no difference to him.”-—H® was fined 10s, in default 24 hours imprisonment. CIRCUS HANDS CHARGED. The ex-employees of Wirths Circus— Francis Lalor, Michael oohn Joseph, Leonard Lalor, and Robert John Lidster—were again charged with the theft of goods valued at £9 Us and £lO, the property of AVilliam Lutty and Ernest Slacombe, at Gore, and also with the thefl of goods valued at £6 10a from Peter Drummond, at Lumsden. —On the application of Chief Detective Cameron th e accused, two of whom are Australians, were remanded to appear at Gore on December 29. A CASE ADJOURNED. When Phillip Gordon Sutherland (Mr C. J. L. White) appeared on charges of entering licensed premises while prohibited, and assaulting Robert Alexander Morris on December 6, Senior Sergeant Quartermain applied for an adjournment on the ground that the principal witness for the prosecution was absent.—The defendant pleaded not guilty to each charge and the case was adjourned until January 16. MAINTENANCE. AA'alter James Victor Pocklingfon (Mr J. B. Thomson) was charged with failing to maintain his wife. A '•omplaint for separation, maintenance, and guardianship in respect of two children was also lodged. Mr A. O. Neill, who appeared for the complainant, said that the parties were 21 and 20 years of age. and had been married only in July last. Efforts to bring them together had failed utterly. Th e husband had advertised that he would not be responsible for debts contracted by bis wife.—ln evidence the Complainant staled that the defendant had given her nothing since October 24.—Mr Thomson expressed regret that onlv one side of the case had been heard.—An order for separation and guardianship was made, with maintenance at 30s a week, and arrears of £lO, with costs (£3 3sl.
