SALE OF MOTOR CYCLE.
PURCHASE BY INSTALMENT INCOMPLETE. CHARGE OF THEFT FOLLOWS. (Special to Daily Times.) WANGANUI, December 21. Reginald Halliday Crutchley pleaded not guilty at the Police Court to-day when charged with th e theft of a motor cycle at Wellington valued at £65, the property of Vernon Francis Marks. Detective Walsh stated that in April, 1926, the accused purchased a motor cycle and paid a deposit of £2O. H@ was to pay the balance at the rate of £3 10s per month. He then left Wanganui for Wellington, where he sold the cycle for £3O cash, and represented the machine to be his own property. Constable M'Alpine said that the accused admitted the sale of the machine, and that after the sale he sent an instalment to the owner of £4 and that was the only one paid. He said that he had no intention to avoid payment, but was short of money owing to sickness in the home. Payment for the machine would be guaranteed. He did not know that it was wrong to sell the machine. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court.
