GERMAN LOCOMOTIVES
NINETY FOR SOUTH AFRICAA SUCCESSFUL TENDER. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright) CAPETOWN, December 20. The Johannesburg Railway Administration has accepted German tenders for the supply of 90 locomotives, costing £550,213. Tenders were received from Britain, America, Germany, and Italy. The technical advisers recommended the Minister of Railways to accept the German tenders after giving the- fullest consideration to the various proposals submitted, also taking into account the various' conditions governing the respective tenders, the quality of the material, and; the workmanship.—A. and N.Z. BELOW BRITISH TENDER. CAPETOWN, December 20. . The successful German tenders for engines quoted an average of 28 per cent, below the British, though the latter had been cut so as to leave no margin of profit.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
