HYDE SCHOOL CONCERT.
The Hyde School annual concert was hold on Thursday, December 15. Mr T. Dowling, chairman of the School Committee, presided. A very interesting programme, reflecting credit on the teacher, Miss Russell, and the pupils, was presented to an appreciative audience. Alter the programme concluded each of the pupils was presented with a prize. the dux of the school was Bertie Bmks.
For the first time on record the tide failed to come in at Parkgate, on the Dee estuary, Cheshire on a recent morning. The water came no further than Heswall, three miles away. The Dae estuary is 13 miles in length, and Heswall, the highest point reached by the tide mentioned, is scarcely half that distance. The failure of the tide to reach Park gate was due to a strong westerly gale. This blow up a big bank of sand, the effect of which was to hold np the inflow of water. In the afternoon, however, the water reverted to its normal course, and the tide came in as usual.
