DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

THE CONCLUDING OPERATIONS. HIGH PRICES MAINTAINED. A SOUND DEMAND. Tho wool sale which commenced in Burns Hal], in Burlington street, on Monday afternoon, continued with activity for nine hours, the sale terminating at 1 o’cioex yesterday morning. In tho earlier part of the sale tho attendance of spectators in the gallery was largo. On Monday night it was a matter of difficulty to obtain entrance, and an impossibility to secure a scat, but people were going as ■well as coming, probably as lots in which they were interested came under the hammer, and in that way interested patrons had the satisfaction of learning tho satisfactory prices realised for their clips. There was also a certain amount of amusement in the proceedings. Wool buyers appear to bo most excitable beings if one may judge by the clamant efforts they make to catch the auctioneer’s eye or to acquaint him with their offer, and tho antics ol some of them wore amusing to the on looker. Others were staid, methodical, and calculating, and uninfluenced by Ino excitement of their neighbours. Our report' which appeared yesterday morning dealt with the opening sales. Up to that time tho lop price for merino was 25d and for halfbred 253 d. But later in the night a special lino of extra super merino realised 27d and, fine halfbred 26Jd The sale can only be regarded ns a satisfactory one from every viewpoint. Sellers and buyers alike are pleased with the prices, and the keenness displayed by the latter is evidence that they regarded in high favour the great bulk of the wool submitted to their choice. Very few linos wore passed in. One firm sold nearly 99 per cent, of a large offering. A number of buyers wont north yesterday. The next sale will bo held on January 31.
