Mit-chell-Thomson (Postmaster-general), in answer to a question, said he had invited the dominions and Indian Governments to nominate representatives for a conference as soon as practicable to consider the question of cables and wireless. Colonel Wedgwood asked : “ Is the object to avoid competition and beep up the prices or to secure competition to keep them down? ” Sir W. Mitchell-Thomson: The object is to consider questions of vital interests to the Governments concerned. SHORT-WAVE BEAM SERVICES

MANY CIRCUITS LINKED UP

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 10. (Received Dec. 20, at 5.5 p.m.) Marconi short-wave beam services arc now in operation between Britain and New York. Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires. The New York beam service augments the long-wave _services, which have been in operation for some years. The South American beany services are equally new and place Brazil and Argentine iii direct wireless communication with London for the first time. They operate both to and from Rio d e Janeiro, hut at present Buenos Aires has no beam aerials, s n that while messages are sent from London by beam to Buenos Aires there is no beam in the reverse direction. A twoway beam service on this route will he completed shortly.
