THE MISSION HOUSE. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I understand that the Rev. Vincent B. King is taking two months’ enforced rest as the result of much strenuous work on behalf of the mission house. H e hSs suffered the effects of serving humanity. What an opportune time to appreciate his splendid service in the cause of keeping th e needy poor! The mission house is sadly in need of funds to carry out its noble work, and the present time would be very opportune for the well-to-do people of this city to contribute to the appeal of a worthy cause. Father Dolling, in his book, tells us that those in the great underworld, who he battled for, “ paid him back in the coin of richest love.” I have no hesitation in saying that Mr King has the same noble spirit.— I am, etc., Humanity. December 15. EARLY DAYS IN SOUTH OTAGO. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The series of articles on South Otago, just completed in your paper, have attracted the attention of Mr A. A. George, journalist, of Hastings. In a letter of appreciation to me he say, inter alia: “ 1 took the plant up on a dray to start the Tapanui Courier.
