THE SUGAR INDUSTRY
LANGUISHING IN BRITAIN. DUMPING OF T ’' >Tl FrGN PRODUCT. (Pres? Associat.. graph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 13. “ The British sugar manufacturers are being crushed out of existence as the result of the advantages enjoyed by foreign refiners. The British beet sugar factories are suffering to a lesser degree. In the dominions the manufacturers,” declares Sir John Corcoran, “ are appealing to the Governments to neutralise these handicaps.” He adds thai 10,000 sugar workers have been thrown out of work at Greenock owing to foreigners, supported by trusts, cartels, tariffs, bounties, and cheap labour, clumping sugar cheaper than they are selling it in their own countries. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
