A British official wireless message states that the King has approved of the appointment of Mr Claude Russell, lately Envoy Extraordinary and Minister 1 lempotentiary to Addis Ababa, to be Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Berne. Sir Benjamin luiller will shortly be visiting New Zealand in connection with the opening of the New Opera House, Christchurch, on December 26, and will arrive in that city on December 21 to supervise finishing details to tli..= now very fine building. Sir Benjamin, who will be accompanied by Lady Fuller and his two daughters, is bringing his own car from Australia, and after opening the New Opera House (as it will henccfoith be called) will make a prolonged tour of the Dominion. Lecturers in mathematics and economics were appointed by the council of the Auckland University College on Monday. Mr K. E. Bullen, 8.A., was selected from 10 applicants for the former, and Mr n. R. Rodwell. M.A., was appointed to the latter position, for which 17 applications were received. Both positions were recently created. Mr Bullen is 21 years of age. He is on the staff of the Auckland Grammar School, and has been a part-time lecturer in mathematics at the University College during the past year. Mr Rodwell, who is 33 years of age, is at present on the staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School and Victoria University College. On returning from war service Mr Rodwell engaged in farming for three years,’ but later was on the staff of Christ’s College for two and a-half years. Mr Rodwell resumed his studies after the war, graduating ns B.A. in 1925, and M.A. in the following year. Since completing the latter degv> Mr Rodwell has been engaged in statistical research, more especially m connection with the Institute of Pacific Relations. He is married. A cablegram from New York states that Mr Henry Ford has retired from the presidency of the Ford Motor Company of Canada, and has been succeeded by Mr Edsel. Mr Ford is resigning from all the companies of which he has been the executive head, but he will continue to take an active interest in the Canadian company.
