ANNUAL ORIENTAL SALE.

The Dunedin and Central Otago Presbyterian Association of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, held its annual tale of Oriental and other goods in Knox Church Sunday School Hall yesterday. A large number of willing saleswomen took charge at 11 o'clock, and throughout the day until 5 o’clock carried on a brisk sale of ornamental and useful articles. Among the attractions was an ancient Korean bridal chest, about 3ft high—an exceedingly artistic piece of work. By the side of it was a large square of Chinese carpet, all hand-worked, for which £3O was asked—a sum much below its value. Amber beads and necklets, fine embroidery work on Irish linen. Nankin tapestry work, and other delicate productions from the East were offered at prices that attracted many buyers Other tables were laden with plain work, cakes, flowers, and sweets, the proceeds of which will assist Horae Missions, and the Girls’ Bible Class conducted a sale of their own in aid of the Turakina Girls’ f?chool. At half-past 2 Mrs M‘Neur officially declared the sale open. She stated that the money taken for the Oriental goods would be devoted to the building of a summer bungalow in India for the missionaries, their wives, and their children. The heat was so great in summer it was necessary that, at any rate, the women and children should go to the cooler climate for a number of months. Mrs Barton, president of the association, thanked all the workers who had assisted in the sale.
