GENERAL NEWS.
Court Pride of the Leith, A.0.F., held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday, when there was a very large attendance of members. The newly-oiccted officers carried out their duties up to the high standard of work maintained in this court. A feature of the evening was the large number of the older members who were present. Letters of congratulations and good wishes were road from many members absent from the city, complimenting the court on its splendid position among friendly societies. The toast of the visitors was responded to by Bro. Fraser on behalf of Court King Edward’s Pride. Two new members were admitted during the evening. Following the close of the meeting a progressive euchre tournament was carried out, the older members playing against the younger generation. The winners were P.C.R. Bro. D. M'Donald first, and P.C.R, Bro. J. M'Connell seebnd. The least prize of all was awarded to Bro. H. D. Terry. The monthly meeting of the St, Clair School Committee was held last Tuesday. A gift of £2 2s wp received from the St. Clair Ladies’ Club, and it was decided to send a letter of thanks. A letter was ceived from the Education Board stating that the committee’s request for desks and built-in cupboards for the infant room bad been granted. Permission was given the headmaster to spend £1 on perennial plants. The headmaster’s report showed a roll number of 652, and a n average attendance for September of 575. The gardening class had been busy attending to work in the school grounds. Dr Champtaloup was making a medical inspection of Standards II and VI The Visiting Committee reported that the Education Board was busy making improvements to the grounds and everything was going smoothly. It was decided to take full advantage of the sports ground, which was now available on the sandhills adjacent to Forbury Park.
