IMPORTS EXCEED EXPORTS. FIGURES FOR THE YEAR. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, August 30. According to the Commonwealth Statistician’s figures, the imports into Australia during 1926-27 were valued at £164,745,000, and the exports at £144,776,000. Compared with the previous year, the imports increased by £13,000,000, while the exports decreased by £4,000,000. At the end of March last there were 4,409,627 savings bank accounts with deposits amounting to £196,071,554, representing an average of £44 9s 3d per account, or £sl 18s 8d per head of population.
