Miss Betty Nuthall, the young English girl, yesterday qualified for the semi-final of the American women’s championship tournament by defeating Miss Eleanor Goss. To-day she is matched against Mrs Chapin, who won a remarkable victory over Mrs Mallory. 4 TILDEN IN FINE FORM. A SUCCESSION OF WINS. NEW YORK, August 28. (Received Ausrust 29, at 9 p.m.) A message from Newport, Rhode Island, states that Tilden won his fifth tournament in five starts in a little more than five weeks when he beat Alonzo 5—7, fi—3, 9—7, 6—2, in an invitation tennis event.—A. and N.Z.
