ST. KILDA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening, and was presided over by the Mayor (Mr R. W. Hall). There were also present: Crs E. Longworth, H. H. Leary, JFleming, J. D. R. M‘Curdy, F. O. Gillam, G. Stratton, C. Conn, and J. Beattie. ■ ■ . PLUMBER’S REPORT. In his report, the Plumber .stated that he had been engaged in putting in water services at various houses, repairing a burst water main in Ferguson street, repairing plugs and main valves, inspecting and repairing taps and stop cocks, inspecting new buildings, disconnecting water pipes in Islington street, lowering water services in-New street, and repairing roofing and spouting at the Coronation Hall. The report was received. - FINANCE. Accounts amounting to £350 11s 3d were passed for payment.. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The Foreman (Mr A. Douglas) reported that during the fortnight ended August 27 kerbing and channelling in Bird street, between Jackson street and Victoria road, had almost been completed, "but that this section had been bard to work on account of the soft bottom. The kerbing and channelling in New street had been going on satisfactorily, and Pretoria avenue had been completed .halfway down. All the bends at the intersection of Ings’s avenue and Forbury crescent had been completed. The usual grading and removal of surface spoil had been attended to and metal had been placed on East avenue, Richardson street, West, Pretoria, and Ings avenues. Grading had been carried out on Grove street, between New street and Bay View road and between New and Market streets. This completed the grading of this street. Ings avenue had been built up for about 50 yards with stones from Bird street, and the footpath in Victoria road, between Victoria and Auld streets, asphalted. Footpaths on Bay View road, West anti Main avenues, Forbnrv crescent and Richardson street, had also been patched. During the coming fortnight it was proposed to proceed with the kerbing and channelling of New street, Jackson street, and Pretoria avenue. The gang from Pretoria avenue would be shifting to Forbury road, between Bay View road and Ings avenue. Thus would complete all kerbing and channelling work from Moreau street to Forbury road, with the exception of Victoria road. The patching oi the footpaths in Alma. Grove, and Princes streets had also been cone on with, and Richardson street would be finished with metal. Moreau street would be widened and Royal crescent and Victoria road patched where they were starting to break. Should the weather prove favourable, the footpaths would be top-dressed and’the gutters in Victoria road repaired where required. The report was received.
