C.O.D. SYSTEM.
ABOLITION DECLINED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 29. Some months ago a deputation from traders and the chambers of commerce ■waited on Mr Coates to protest against the Post Office’s cash-on-delivery system of parcels from England. Mr Coates has replied that its abolition would not be a friendly gesture to England, and that he is satisfied that no good purpose would be served by setting up a committee to inquire into the subject. The Government, he said, would be prepared later on to review the whole question. The Wellington Chamber has considered the reply, and thinks it unconvincing. It is urged that Australia and Canada have no such external system, though they apply it internally.
