THE CHATHAM CUP. NORTHERN WIN SOUTH ISLAND FINAL. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 27. The South Island final of the Chatham Cup wm played at English Park to-day, when Northern, the Otago champions, met Nomads, the Canterbury premiers. Ihe ground was sticky and there was a cold wind from the south, but the day was C The first half was very even, and ended with no score. In the middle of the second half, from a scrimmage, M lavish (Northern) whipped in a fast shot, which had M'Dougall beaten all the way. Northern kept up the attack, an “ ,* rom a perfect corner by G. Marist defeated Y.M.C.A. by eight goals 10 Marist (Wellington) will play Manawatu at Wellington on September 3, and the winners of this match will play Ponsonbv (Auckland) on September 17, at Auckland, to decide which club will represent the North Island against the South Island on a date yet to be arranged. The following will represent Wellington in the English trophy match at Christchurch on September 3:—Tarrant, Gibb, M'Girr, Findlay, Jeffrey, M'Cormick, AMLeod, Dickenson, Anton, Lack, Hamilton. Emergency, Guest. LOCAL GAMES. Owing to the state of the grounds all local games, with the exception of the Maori Hill-Seacliff match at Seacliff, were postponed. The latter game decided the runners-up in the senior competition. Seacliff won by the narrow margin of three goals to two, and will play off, probably on September 10, with Northern for the Chinese Charity Cup. AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS. (Pee United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 27. The Australian Schoolboys’ Soccer team played a Manawatu team this afternoon in fine weather. Scientific football was shown by the visitors, who were superior in all departments, winning by 5 goals to nil.
