HOSPITAL BOARD REPORTS.
The Hospital Board report* contain the following items: — The Benevolent Committee dealt with. 24 oases for relief at a weekly oost of £25 8s 6d. Casual cases for relief amounting to £266 2s 4d have been approved. Fourteen men who applied for relief were each granted two days and a-half work each. During the past month seven persons have been admitted to. and two discharged from, and one death has occurred at the Otago Benevolent _ Institution. At present 163 inmates remain. Pay sheets and accounts amounting to £1122 13s 6d have been passed for payment. The Sanatorium Committee’s report states; The resident medical officer reports that there are 20 males and 27 females at present in the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium. During the past month there were two admissions and six discharges. The requisition for a pneumo thorax pas been granted. The requisition from the resident raedtoal officer for a steriliser ha* been referred to the controller of stores with power to act. Pay sheets and accounts amounting to £B2O 6s 8d have been passed for payment. The Hospital Committee’s report states; In accordance with the suggestion of the honorary medical staff, the house surgeon in charge of the gynsecological ward in the Dunedin Hospital has been appointed house surgeon to the Batchelor Hospital. 'Die suggested purchase of a radium emanation plant, extra equipment and staff, and a sterescope for the X-ray Department has been deferred for a period of six months. Tlie request made from _ the honorary medical staff for the erection of a new bloc!!: for eye,' ear, nose and threat department, Dunedin Hospital, is to stand over for consideration in six months’ time. The returns of coses are as followsla factious diseases hospital: eight admissions, one discharge, and seven patients remaining in hospital| infirmary ward: five admissions, two discharges, one_ death and 50 patients remaining in hospital. Pay sheets and accounts amounting .to £4204 I4s Id have been passed for payment. The Finance Committee in its report states that the. Otago Education Board ha* now agreed to pav 9d per meal supplied from the Prince Edward Children’s Convalescent Home to the children attending the Sara Cohen Open Air School, Information has-been received from the Dircctor-gehenal of Health approving of the agreement regarding maintenance charges of inmates in the Otago Benevolent Institution admitted from outside the Otago board’s district. Accounts amounting to £23,826 12s 2d were passed for payment. The bank balances on April 12 amounted to £16776 9s sd.
