At the memorial service at St- Botolnh’s, Aldgate. on February 21, to Sir John Cass, the eighteenth century founder of a local charity school, the children wore

red quills in their caps. This commemorates the tragic happening at the signing of the will creating the foundation, when Sir John burst a blood vessel, and the blood stained the vellum. Tho twentysixth anniversary of the founding of tlio technical institute connected with the school was also celebrated.
