M.A., D.D., vicar of All Saints’, Dunedin, has placed his resignation in the hands of the bishop, to take effect on March 31 this year. The dean was placed in temporary charge of the parish in 1879, and received his formal license on April 7, 1380. Consequently at the date, of his resignation ho will have completed 47 years of service in the parish of All Saints. On February 25 a very large crowd assembled in the Sutton School to bid farewell to Aliss Hislop, who has occupied the position of sole teacher of the school for the past two years and a-half. The chairman (Mr A.‘Cockerell) presided over the gathering, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by Miss Hislop. both in the school and in connection with the social welfare of the district, and presented her, on behalf of the residents, with a cabinet of stainless cutlery, while Aliss Johnstone presented, from the school children, a three-tier cake stand and plates. Mr Taylor (Middlemarch) thanked Miss Hislop for her assistance in the social activities of that district, and asked _ her acceptance from the Middlemarch Ladies’ Tennis Club, of a beautiful copper vase and iardinierc. Aliss Hislop suitably responded, and a dance concluded the function. A pleasant little function took place at the Grand Hotel at Palmerston North last evening (reports our special correspondent), when the ladies and gentlemen of the press travelling on the Roval train honoured the 60th birthday of the Police Commissioner (Mr MTnveney) by presenting him with a serviceable silver-plated travelling companion as a token of their esteem for his uniform courtesy and consideration. Hie Commissioner, in roplv. stated that he was only too glad to assist the press on all ocoscions when it did not conflict with Ins duty as an officer of the police.
