Bell, of Karero, Palmerston North, who is riding from Auckland to Palmerston within the space of a week and without resources other than his horse, arrived at Wanganui to-night in ample time to complete his pourney to-morrow afternoon. His adventures en route included losing his way two or three times and a collision with a motor car which slightly injured his horse. WELLINGTON, March 3. Found on Chinese premises in Taranaki street in the early hours of the morning, Mildred Audrey Jones, a domestic servant, aged 23, who pleaded guilty on Monday to being an idle and disorderly person in that she had insufficient lawful means of support, was sentenced to-day to 12 months’ reformative detention. At the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Adams, the only criminal business was tlie sentencing of Claude Reginald Gaylor. who had pleaded guilty in the lower court to the theft of £l2O. the property of his employers, Messrs Wild and Bassett. lie was sentenced to reformative treatment for a period not exceeding 18 months, GREVMOCTH, March 3. A representative meeting of citizens in the Town Hall to-night, over which the Mayor presided, formed a branch of the Now Zealand Timber Industry Advancement League. Among the speakers was the organiser of the league (Air W. E. Turnbull), who detailed the growth of the league elsewhere. The following resolution was unanimously passed:—That the Government he asked to make discussion by Parliament of the findings of the Tariff Commission a matter of urgency, bringing it on immediately it is received.
