SANTREY’S ORCHESTRA

A harpist is an unusual adjunct to an orchestra, but Henry Hantrey who will present his famous organisation at His Majesty’s Theatre to-morrow evening (Saturday) includes the harp in his programmes. In fact, Mr Santrey enjoys tho distinction of being the first in America to introduce a harpist in a jazz band. The exponent is a particularly gifted artist, and his selections always meet with approval. Contrast is the keynote of this combination. Syncopated music is played in appealing fashion, while for the more seriously inclined, there are gems of romantic opera and excerpts from the classics to hold the audience spellbound. And Mr Santrey is the directing genius whose artistry shows itself in the picturesque staging, and tho entrancing results achieved by the eleven picked musicians. This orchestra is commanding great interest in New Zealand, as it has done in Australia and America, but it is not only the orchestra itself (hat holds sway. Associated with the combination are Harry and Anna Seymour, two experienced artists who give their items in entirely now style. Miss Seymour is bright in all she says and and her partner has a quiet fund of humour to give point to it all. Tho vaudovi’lo entertainment provided by J. O. Williamson stars is ono of exceptional merit. They come with well-deserved reputations from overseas, and should bo popular in their respective acts. Jean Barrios, with a New York offering, depicts girls of tho period in a fashion plate review of sfylos. The Stavnnnys are Dutch athletes who amaze with their daring feats in mid-air, and likewise arouse admiration with their beautiful statuary studios. Yost and Clady possess rare attainments as clay modellers, and Estelle Fralus lias an act in which manikins play an effective part. Tho box plans arc rapidly filling, and day sales will be available from 10 a.in. to-morrow.
