PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held at Portobello yesterday, and was attended by Messrs Macandrew (chairman), Miller, Irvine, Malcolm, Shepperd, Lewis, Gibson, Grigg, and Landreth. Mr G. Wallace, Portobello, wrote asking that a road, be formed and metalled to his gate,—Local members to report. The Love Construction Company was constructing a school buliding for St. Joseph’s Orphanage at Waverley, ami asked that a few loads of metal be spread on the road in front of the orphanage, as it was practically impossible to turn cars and lorries on it in wet weather. — Referred to the local members. Mr J. Craighead, health inspector, reported that he had approved of an application to install a septic tank at Portobello, and had also approved of secondhand timber from the Exhibition for buildings at Lower Portobello. —The report was received. Mrs A. James asked the board to improve the steps leading to her residence at Russell Bay.—The request was declined. Mr G. C. Reddell, Portobello, asked permission to put in a pipe culvert. — Pei'mission granted. It was resolved to have the Coronation Hall painted by day labour, the board to supply the materials. Mrs M. Gibson, Macandrew Bay, wrote asking the board’s permission to remove the bridge across an adjacent creek to a position nearer her front entrance. —This request was referred to the local members. In Portobello subdivision during February general road work, it was reported, had been carried nut in Beach road, the road from the Maori line to Smith’s, and on Lewis’s road. Pipes had been put in at Shepperd’s, and on the Macandrew line. —The report was approved.
