A CHEERFUL VAGABOND

FREQUENTER. OF CEMETERY DIALOGUE WITH MAGISTRATE. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 3. “Can’t yon get something to do?” “Yes, I will got out to-day if I get a chance.” “ Yes, three months hard labour.” This was the conclusion of a dialogue between Mr E. Mosley, S.M., and Robert Rodgers, alias John Davidson, in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Rodgers, with a “ roll ” of about £3O, had come from the West Coast two months ago, and smilingly admitted that he had spent the money since. He was charged with being an idle and disorderly person in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. Roberts was found reading a newspaper in the Barbadoes street cemetery at 7 o’clock this morning, and admitted having frequented the cemetery previously. Defendant said he had never been a nuisance to anyone. He had spent his “ roll ” of £29 17s, and could not got work. The' Magistrate: Your explanation is extremely unsatisfactory. Defendant said he was sorry that that was so. The Magistrate: So am I. Three months’ imprisonment, with hard labour.
