GOVERNMENT CRITICISED. PROTEST BY A.S.R.S. (Special to Dazlt Tunis.) WELLINGTON, February U. Criticism of the immigration policy of the Government was voiced _at the continuation to-day of the national conference of tho Amalgamated society of Railway Servants. During the discussion tho point was stressed by delegates that, far from being antagonistic to the immigrants, they had a good deal of sympathy with.unfortunate workers who came out to New Zealand believing that they were sure of a position. The necessity for publishing information in England regarding the conditions in Now Zealand was also urged by several delegates, and it was mentioned that on the day of Mr Coates’s arrival in London the New Zealand Labour Party had cabled to the Daily Herald as follows: “Unemployment in New Zealand is more severe than for many years, and there is much distress in the cities. The Government has failed to meet the situation, its immigration policy accentuating the difii°Tho follow ing resolution was adopted unanimously:—• “That this conference of the A.SdR.A protests against the Government’s immigration policy being continued in view of the unemployment in the country. M e feel that the workers are entitled to the same measure of protection as that afforded by tho Government to another section of the community recently, alien a pretest was matte against iheir market being flooded by dumping."
