BRIGHTON DOMAIN.

TO TIIF. EDITOR. Sib, —"Marvellous effusion" are the best words one can use when reading the report in this morning's Daily Times. I acknowledge the seats and footpaths as things deserving crodit and join with the oldest resident of Brighton in his commendation, but must point out that there has been an abBolute failure to state why the board has neglected to spend one penny on the shelter shed, on fences round it, tad on the conveniences attached to it, but, on the other hand, has allowed them to got into a disgraceful stat-e and become overgrown with lupines. Whoever took your reporter on his visit must have avoided showing him this spot. Public money put them there, and the present board has persistently allowed them to waste away when the same publio provided it with ample money to keep them in order. Money was wasted in other direotio-'s—viz., in removing the gate and from the former position to the new one —absolutoly unnecessary, as all Brighton residents affirm. 1 havo made inquiries about .'ie open-air bathing-shed, and find that the present board allowed itto gradually get into disrepair , nstead of strengthening it, and then wasted the money on the present structure. Result: the almost obscene conduct which is witnessed daily of youths in full view of the beach and domain visitors undrossing: and sporting thomselvos. The secluded spot where th i demolished one stood is acknowledged by -11 I have spoken to bb ideal. No, sir, the fact is that the present chairman ha 3 lost the confidence of the residents. The day of the autocrat is done-, let him stand aside and the same generous public will assist .gain. Confidence will bo restored if the domain comes under the jurisdiction of the City Council whoso officers deal with this class of work every day. The proposed change is hailed with delight so far a I can learn. Wo citizens of Dunedin have a great chance here. Let us not let it slip. The Mayor is to be complimented on the stand ha took in asking the committee to investigate further. We sh«'ij a-vr.ii the report with interest. —I am, r-^. T. R
