NORTH-EAST HARBOUR CLUB. The North-East Harbour Boating Club held a series of races on Saturday afternoon under favourable conditions. The two yacht races claimed little attention from boat owners, only two competing for (ho Elliott Cup, and four for the other event. Seven boats contested the launch race. The yachts were favoured with a lull sail breeze from the north-cast. To the surprise of many Colleen, the scratch boat, did not start in the race for the Elliott Cup, and the event was eonlined to Betty and Spray. The wind proved too strong for Spray which won the cup last year, and she retired. Spray had a handicap of 7min 30seo from the scratch boat. Betty, with a handicap of omin, sailed the course in good time, and being the only boat to finish, her youthful owner holds the cup for the next 12 months. The other sailing event was the 20ft and over 12ft 6in boats. This race figured on the Boxing Day regatta programme, when a resail was ordered by the officials. The starters on Saturday were Mavis (scratch), Seahawk (30sec), Agnes (Imin), and Mona (7min). Mavis was the first to cross the line at the start, followed by Mona, Seahawk and Agnes. Mona* for some reason retired after rounding the mark off Company’s Bay, and crossing over the banks, sailed along the Victoria Channel. Mavis held a good lead when the boats returned to Macandrow Bay. Soaliatvk then held second position, with Agnes third, 2min astern of Seahawk. Mini- was the winner. The starters in the launch race were: — Neale, Verona, Klto, Baby Groper, Jewel, Silvocea, Marewa and Stella. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WANGANUI, January 23. Tho Wanganui regatta on Saturday was attended by 5000 or 60C0 spectators. Beautiful weather prevailed, and exciting racing was witnessed. Great interest was taken in the Masport Cup race —tho speed championship of Now Zealand, which was won by Alderton Bros’ J. and J. (Wanganui) by 55 seconds from tho Auckland boat Floetwing Junior. The course was 15 nautical miles. Time, 26min 25sec. Kohuku (Wanganui) also started, but broke down. Nonesuch (North Auckland), Miss Cheltenham (Auckland), and Little Jim (Wanganui) were non-starters owing to engine trouble. In the Lclcan Cup Handicap race. One Slop (Wanganui) caught (ire, and Spot II (Auckland) overturned at the bend. Fleetwing Junior was first over the course and won the prize money, but J. and J. made the fastest time, and was awarded the <UP’Iho Maori events wore very interesting, tho Ngaruawahia visitors being very successful. At tho close of the rogatia J. and J. made a dash to establish a New Zealand speed record and touched 50 miles an hour. WELLINGTON REGATTA.
