MEAL ALLOWANCES.
NEW REGULATIONS. P. AND T. DEPARTMENT. (Speciai. to Daili Times.) WELLINGTON, December 23. ... A new regulation regarding meal allow-, ances for P. and T. officers is gazetted to-night. It provides that where officers are directed to commence duty at least two hours before ordinary time, or to work two hours after the time ordinarily for release, and they have not time to* travel home, or are unable to have their’ usual midday meal, they may be granted a meal allowance on the following scale:— Officers receiving £4OO a year on over, 2s 6d; officers receiving under £4OO a year, 2s. Tram fares'to and from the officers’ r residences may be paid only when no meal allowances are granted. Meal allowances shall not be paid to officers on regular r> dav duty who can be released without difficulty for sufficient time to take their ." meals at home.
