SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
“RAG” ON CORN MARKET. LEVITY OF “REVEREND SEIGNEURS.” (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.'! LONDON, Dcember 22. (Received Dee. 23, at 10 p.m.) The Empire Christmas pudding, weighing 141 b, was conveyed to Buckingham Palace, and also a cask of Cyprus brandy, in the event of it being desired to serve the pudding accompanied by brandy sauce. The spirit of Christmas invaded the London markets, such as the Stock Exchange and the corn market, where there were numerous “rags,” including the letting off of fireworks. A typical “rag” in the corn market commenced with an explosion of fire crackers, which was the signal for someone to produce a football, when i tumultous call of “rugger” arose. Sides were quickly formed, and soon everal hundred staid business men were chasing a ball around the market until it was lost among the rafters. Scores of sample bags of corn were thrown to disloge the ball, which suggested a snowball fight among members with . bags of corn as missiles. The older members protested in vein, and nothing worse hap--33 missiles. The older members protested in vain, and nothing worse happened than the breaking of the windows and glass globes, while hats were kicked to pieces.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
