HOLIDAY TRAFFIC.

HEAVY BOOKINGS. PRINCIPAL TRAFFIC OUTWARDS. The train traffic at Dunedin (outwards) has been particularly heavy so far this season, and the bookings indicate, that this is likely to continue throughout the holiday period. Last year the principal traffic was inwards, which was accounted for by th« Exhibition, which was the main source of attraction. Bookings for the North Island have been particularly heavy this year, it is estimated that 15 to 20 per cent, of the passengers by the northward-bound trains are bound for the North Island.

The passenger traffic on the Otago Central line has been very heavy, and the reservations there for to-day and to-morrow are in the vicinity of 700. Two trains will leave for Cromwell on both days —the express at 7.40 a.m. and the ordinary train at 7.52.

The passenger trains for the north to-day will total five, each of 11 cars, the scheduled times of departure being 8.40 a.m., 9.5 a.m., 11.30 a.m., 12.5 p.m., and 10.20 p.m. A similar number of aassenger trains wilt run south, the scheduled times of de parture being 8.35 a.m., 9 a.m., 4.45 p.m., 5.43 p.m., and 11.10 p.m. Each of these trains, both north and south, will carry approximately 500 passengers. To-morrow there will bo three trains foi the north, leaving Dunedin at 8.40 a.m., 9.5 a.m., and 11.30 a.m., and for Invercargill there will be a special train, in addition to the 8.35 a.m. and 4.40 p.m. trains. All these trains are estimated to carry 500 passengers each. So great has been the traffic during this week that three officials have been continuously engaged attending to reservations, and it is estimated that approximately £3OOO has been received by the booking staff for tickets.
