WATER FOR WELLINGTON.
ORONGORONGO SUPPLY. GREAT VALVE OPENED. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, December 22. The culminating: act in connection with the Orongorongo water supply took place at the Karori reservoir reserve this morning, when the Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) in the presence of members of the City Council, the head officials, and a few visitors, turned on the great valve wnich admitted the Orongorongo water to the lower dam, thus ensuring to Wellington that this basin will always carry enough water to steady the pressure on the mains feeding the city and higher levels. This basin is now being filled at the rate of 6,000,000 gallons per day, and should be quite filled by the end of the month, when the inflow will automatically cease until such time as the level of the water recedes, when the flow will recommence. The work, of which the ceremony is tne culmination, cost £439,000.
