ANGLING PROSPECTS.

CONDITION OF THE RIVERS. Following out its good intention, the Otago Anglers' Association has issued circulars far and near as to the condition of streams for angling purposes, with the gratifying result tnat the following inlormaiion has been supplied:— The vVaitaki is a little discoloured, and should provide good sport during the holidays. Uood baskets were the order during the week-end, baskets of brown trout containing lish ranging from Bib to 141 b. In the Kakanui fishing has been poor, and the river docs not appear to be stocked. The Shag is in good condition, and lish are plentixul. Lee Stream is in fairly good order, and good lish obtainable aoout three miles above the hotel. Fisii from 2lb to 3ilb have been taken recently. The VVaipori.—At the mouth of Post Office Creek provides a good basket, including brown trout of 2f.lb and a rainbow of 21 o weight. In the river from the lake to dam a good many fish have been caught. Contour Channel.—A few fish have been taken, but this water is now very weedy. Tokomairiri Stream yields splendid sport in windy weather. Fish from 21b to 91b are to be caught. A'well-known angler’s latest basket was eight fish totalling 321 b. Waiwcra and Kaihika are both in good order and clear, but weed is now appearing in places. . . Kuriwao at Clinton is in good order, k l, i'he 6waka.—Splendid baskets have been taken from this water, ana the fiver is in first-class order for fly or minnow. These conditions apply to all parts of the river. ' The Gatlins is reported to bo full of fish and giving good sport. An eleven pounder was taken from the upper reaches along with three others averaging over 41b in weight. . The Puerua is also m good order. Waipahi is a trfle low, and weed is beginning to appear in places, but still it is in fair order. .... Pomahaka is in good fishing condition and well stocked with well-conditioned fish Mataura River has been very high and dirty for some time, and fishing has been poor. Conditions are now improving, and good minnow fly fishing should soon be obtainable, as this water is very well stocked with fish from 21b up. ~. , The Mimihau is reported to be full ot fish weighing up to 21b. At the Oreti, near Lumsden, plenty ot tidi are got, and the river is m good order. Fraser River provides fishing that is worth while. Eight-pounders are common Lake Onslow is giving good sport, and will be even better in the new year.
