VISIT TO INVERCARGILL

PROTEST AGAINST CURTAILMENT. (Feom Ora Special Correspondent.) INVERCxVRGILL, December 19. Invercargill is not taking what the citizens consider a slight, in connection •with the Duke of York’s visit, calmly, and a protest against the curtailment of their Royal Highnesses’ stay here is being forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs. A meeting of the Duke and Dudiess of York Reception Committee , . resowed that a telegram be sent to the Minister of Internal Affairs as follows: “Referring to your telegram advising that Royal party will now reach Invercargill on the afternoon of March 22, and after spending short time in Invercargill, wil take their departure from the Blurt that evening by the Renown, we respectfully lodge a strong protest on the ground that Invercargill being the capital of Southland, is surely entitled to more consideration. It is felt that an injustice is being done to the people of Southland and Invercargill in so curtailing the visit. The difference in time could easily be saved by shortening their stay in the main cities and the North Island towns. We consider it would only be fair to adhere to the original itinerary.” A copy of the telegram is to be sent "o Sir Joseph Ward, M.P., with a letter asking him to support the town in its effort to secure a longer visit from the Royal party.
