SICK WOMAN’S PLIGHT. SCOW’S FORTUNATE ARRIVAL. (Pee United Peess Association.) GISBORNE, December 9. The representations that are being made to the Chamber of Commerce regarding telephonic communication with the Portland Island lighthouse had point given to them yesterday when the wife of one of the keepers became dangerously ill, and there was no means of summoning help._ By chance the scow Koau came in sight about 9 p.m.. and signals brought her close to the shore. The woman was carried on a stretcher two miles and down precipitous cliffs. She was pot aboard safely and brought to tho Gisborne Hospital this morning. Had tho weather not been exceptionally favourable her removal could not have been effected.
