THE ROYAL TOUR
EXTENDED VISITS. AUCKLAND REQUEST REFUSED. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, December 9. A request that the period of the stay of the Duke and Duchess of York in the city of Auckland should be extended in order that more people might be enabled to take part in the entertainment arrangements was recently made to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the Auckland City Council. At this evening’s meeting of the council a reply was received from / the Minister stating that an extension bf the Royal party’s visit to the city could no be arranged. The duration of the party’s visit to New Zealand was limited to 29 days, and considerable difficulty had been experienced in arranging the course of travel. Their Royal Highnesses wished to see ns much of the country and as many of the people as possible in the short period available. while at the same time his Majesty the King desired that th n programme should not be too arduous. extend the stay in Auckland would necessitate a curtailment elsewhere, and as the duration of the visit at different places, and the travelling times, had already been cut as fine as possible, it was regretted that it was not possible to moot the wishes of the council in the matter.
