Canterbury Automobile Association’s Rooms, Christchurch, at 8.1 p.m., Thursday, 4th November, 1926, under official control, and successfully accomplished the journey to Invercargill and return to Christchurch on top gear, without any use of intermediate gears, the complete journey of 780 miles taking 19 hours 52 mins, running time. 2. The trip was run over the recognised main roads south, via Ellesmere Bridge, Irwell, Dunsandel, and via Hinds, over Rangitata Bridge, Geraldine, and over Kilmogg and Mount Cargill, into Dunedin, then by main road to Invercargill. Return over same route. S. The car was continually under official supervision, and all petrol used accurately recorded. 4. And that the following data is correct: — Time Engine ran continuously, 21 hours 38 minutes. Time spent in checking controls, road wheels stationary, engine running, 1 hour 46 mins. Total mileage recorded, 780 miles. Average speed throughout, deducting time spent in controls, 39.9 miles per hour.
