Peter Bingen established a race record .Then ho won at Wellington this week in 4min Slsee. The previous best was 4min 34 4-sscc, put up by Audacious in 1925. Tho Hutt track is not fast and Peter Bingen will probably reach qualification for the New Zealand Trotting Cup during the present season. Star Ranger has been galloping well at Trentham, and he will make the trip to Auckland for the Cup. J. IV. Lowe has taken him to Te Awamutu for the principal handicap to oo run at the Waipa meeting on Saturday. Star Ranger and Tanadees have been working the reverse way in company at Trentham. It is interesting to note that a half-sister to Mr T. 11. Lowry's well-performed imported horse Grandcourt (Captivation—La Huppe), who is. now doing stud duty at Oknwa, won a couple of races in England recently. The half-sister referred to is Dench, who followed up her Chepstow success by winning the Trent Selling Nursery at Nottingham. When auctioned after the race she was sold for £SOO to Major 11. Cuyzer, who saw good stud value in her after her racing days are over. Chersonese, the dam of Heroic, has produced a colt foal to the Valeris horse Devizes. Glenalmond, who, in company with Rebuke, was sold a few months ago by G. Murray-Aynslcy, to go to Australia, has raced disappointingly at the pony meetings around Sydney, and now word comes from that city' that ho was the cause of his owner, R. Skelton, the ‘‘Pony King” of Australia, being placed under the ban for six months, as a result of an inquiry into the gelding's running in the first division of the Maiden Handicap at Victoria Park on November 24. The following Riccarton horsemen have engagements at the South Canterbury meeting this week:- —J. Beale, Gay Jim, Moratorium, Gold Mint. Rapier; R. Beale, Some Abbey, Marco Polo, Dancing Days; O. Emerson, Moorland, Celerity 11, Couleur de Rose. Gold Brick: C. Eastwood, Front, Rank, Paperchaso, Saxolte. Bockart; F. E. Jones. Clarcnson, Scrotina, Sir Roy, Volant, Battlement. Rapier has been pleasing tho critics by his track work. At the end of October, which represented tho first quarter of tho Australian racing season, tho progeny of Valais had won prize-money to tho amount of £19,279. Rossendale was second with £15,229. The many friends of the well-known Riccarton mentor. R. Emerson, will regret, to hear that a rather serious illness attacked him on his return from the Methven meeting last, week. , Diogenes is regarded in the north as a doubtful starter in the Auckland Cup. Booster was responsible for a good gallop at Riccarton on Tuesday last. It is reported that Grand Knight will not start in the Auckland Cup. Battlement is said to have shaped disappointingly in .a gallop with Count Cavour on Tuesday. Jack Potts has trained on satisfactorily since he was last seen in public.
