MILTON NOTES.

(Fsou Ocb Own Cobbespondent.) MILTON, November 25. TOKO SUMMER SHOW. The general entries for the Toko Farmers 7 Club's sixty-first annual summer show, to be held on Tuesday, show a gratifying increase in all sections, except saddle and harness horses, as demonstrated by the following figures for the various classes (last year's figures in parentheses):—Cattle. 62 (45); draught horses. 56 (45); light horses, breeding classes, and ponies, 37 (27); saddle and harness horses, 48 (63); sheep, 109 (70). The entries in sheep classes constitute a record for the club, and there is competition in practically every class —an unusual experience at Milton shows. It is anticipated that excellent post entries will also be received in the competitions, dairy produce, and home industries sections. FORESTERS' LODGE. An official visit was paid by the district executive officers to this week's meeting of Court Bruce, Ancient Order of Foresters, but there was a disappointing attendance of local brethren to welcome the visitors. The district executive was represented by D.S.C.R. Bro. T. F. M'Natty, D. Sec. Bro. J. K. Macfie, D.W. Bro. R. S.- Vercoe, and D.B. Bro. E. Ensor. The Chief Ranger, Bro. E. Marshall, presided, and welcomed the visitors, expressing regret at the meagre attendance of local brethren.—D.S.C.R. Bro. M'Natty delivered an address urging members to continue the good work or Forestry in the Milton district. The A.O.F. was becoming one of the leading friendly societies in the Dominion, but the leakage of members from the order was one of the greatest obstacles to be overcome. He advocated that Foresters should maintain closer personal touch with new members, to prevent them dropping out. Bro. M'Natty also dealt with the increased benefits which had accrued to members as the result of the surplus disclosed at the last quinquennial valuation. Short addresses were also delivered by other members of the district executive, who urged Court Bruce to liven up and endeavour to win again the cup presented by Court Pride of Leith to the court obtaining most members. P.C.R. Bro. John C. Gibb was presented with the usual framed certificate and neck sash in recognition of his services as Immediate Past Chief Ranger. PERSONAL. A former resident of Milton, Mr H. Dickson (son of Mr and Mrs John Dickson), is at present visiting the Dominion on seven months' furlough from China. He is accompanied by his wife and child. Mr Dickson holds a prominent appointment under the London firm of the Asiatic Petroleum Company, at Ning Po. They are at present visiting Mrs Dickson's relatives at Ckristchurch. MILTON HOSPITAL. _ Matters concerning the recent troubles in regard to the severance of Dr J. G. Stewart's connection with tiia Milton Hospital are at present in quiescent 6tage. A conference has been held between delegates from Milton friendly societies and local representatives on the South Otago Hospital Board as a preliminary to the delegates making a deputation to the board for Dr Stewart to be appointed an honorary medical officer. A special meeting of the Hospital Board is being convened for Thursday next, to discuss the impasse which has arisen.
