THE OVERTIME STRIKE. A SETTLEMENT PROBABLE. (Press AseooiatioD— By Telegraph— Ropy right.) MELBOURNE, November 25. The compulsory conference between the parties in the watersiders' overtime dispute, which was commenced yesterday, was 'adjourned until to-day without peaching finality, but a settlement is considered probable. (Received Nov. 26, at 0.30 a.m.) The compulsory conference again sat to-day without reaching finality, but the prospects for a setlement are now brighter. THE ANNANDALE TBAGEDY. SYDNEY, November 25. David Allen Burgess was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of James Riddell, and was remanded for sentence. James Riddell, aged 17, as the outcome of gang quarrels, was fatally shot in the street at Annandale. The police arrested Burgess, a member of another gang. BUTTER-FACTORY DESTROYED. SYDNEY, November 25. Fire destroyed the butter factory at Cobargo, which was one of the bestequipped factories in the State. The damage is estimated at £II,OOO. FIRE BRIGADE STRIKE. BRISBANE, November 26In connection with the fire brigadesmen's strike the Board of Trade, at the men's request, has called a compulsory conference of the parties for Monday, conditional on the men resuming work imwhich they have agreed to do. There were no fire calls during the day. FATAL EXPLOSION IN MINE. SYDNEY, November 25. (Received Nov. 25, at 11 p.m.) J Pallitti and E. Variessetta, who were working at the 1300 ft level in the British Mine at Broken Hill, bored into a "miss hole." An explosion followed, and both were blown to pieces. TUe remains had to be brought to the surface in sacks. .
