(Pee United Pbess Association.) GISBORNE, November 13. To-day marked an important stage in harbour operations, the dredging of tlie diversion cut having reached high-water mark on the Waikanae Beach. It is expected that in a few months the river will have been diverted and work started on the development of the new inner harbour. The old Monowai will be used as a breakwater at Whareong.Tonga, where the board is obtaining supplies of stones. HASTINGS, November 13. Yesterday’s hailstorm swept a belt of from one to two miles wide from the northern suburb of Hastings to the sea doing considerable damage to apples, pears, and other fruits and vegetables Although some individual orchards suf fered severely, experts consider that the bruised fruit would be thinned off in any case, and as the largest fruit areas were untouched by the storm the damage done will not seriouslv afl’cct the local crop.
