THE KAWARAV RIVER CLAIMS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —I have to thank you for publishing mv letter of the 3rd inst.. the information supplied by the secretary of the Kawarau Gold Mining Co. (Ltd.) is, however, just about as clear as the water is in the river at flood time. What I and others wish to know is whether there is, as is rumoured, an agreement by the terms of which the Kawarau Company has to allow a sufficient quantity. of water to flow m the river, so that there are 500 heads available—that is, above the level of the bottom of the race, for the use of the Cromwell Development Company. During the time that the dam gates were closed recently, although the quantity of water in the river was too great to admit of the satisfactory working of the claims, the leve' of the river was from Bft to 10ft lowc t an the bottom of the Cromwell Development Company’s race. You will understand, therefore, that this is a most imoprtant question to the shareholders in the Kawarau River claims. —I am, etc., H. J. Boaedman. [Our correspondent may have overlooked a paragraph on the subject in our issue of Thursday last. — Ed. O.D.T.]
