SANDERS CUP TRIALS.

WINIFRED'S SECOND VICTORY. Winifred secured an easy victory in the second Sanders Cup trial race, sailed on Saturday afternoon on the upper harbour over a windward and leeward course, ine wind was strong from the south-west, and the three contestants—Winifred, Kia Ora. and Eunice —carried full sail. T-he boats started between a. channel buoy and the Victoria wharf, the turning mark being a buoy off Black Jack’s Point. The boats sailed twice round the course, the time limit being two hours. Heavy rain fell at intervals, but in spite of the unfavourable weather a large crowd watched the race from the wharf. The crew of Heather are busy shifting the centre-plate, and the boat consequently was not ready to compete. Winifred sailed one of her best races, being very skilfully handled by Kellett. Thf> Ravensbourne men went into the load at the start, and finished with a lead of over 3min from Kia Ora. Eunice, the other competitor, although far astern of the leaders, was well handled by Watson. The boats were sent away at 3.15 p.m. Winifred was first over the line, followed by Eunice, while Kia Ora _ crossed SOscc after Winifred. French losing this time through keeping some distance behind the line. Kia Ora overhauled IVinifred passing the three legs, but when Kellett broke out his spinnaker the Ravensbourne boat quickly established a big lead. The boats rounded the buoy as follows: Winifred 3h 25min 30sec Kia Ora 3h 27min Bseq Eunice 3h 28min 45sec Winifred increased her load on the beat to the starting-line, the times of rounding being:— Winifred 3h 45min 20sec Kia Ora 3h 46min 30sec Eunice 3h 48min ssec Winifred led Kia Ora by Imin lOsec on the run back to the lower harbour mark. The leading boats made a fast run, and rounded as follows; Winifred 3h 56min 15sec Kia Ora 3h 58min 25seo Eunice 4fi Imin 15seo Winifred gained over Imin on Kia Ora on the run. and Kellett had the race well in hand. On the last beat to the line Winifred further increased her lead, and the little boat was much admired as she raced through the water She crossed the line at 4h 14min 21sec. thus sailing the six-mile course in very fast time.
