DISCHARGING OPERATIONS.
HOLD-UP OH WHAHGAPE. MEN’S DEMAND CONCEDED. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 15. 1 hero was a temporary hold-up at the discharging operations at the Union Company’s cargo vessel Whangape this morning. It appears that three gangs which had been engaged at the vessel on Thursday last had been knocked off at 10.30 a.m. bv the Union Company on account of the shortage of trucks. When a call was made at 8 o’clock this morning only th~se who had been previously engaged at the vessel came forward, but they declined to resume work unless they were allowed half-pay for the intervening time from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. After some demur Die company granted the request and work was resumed at 10 a.m.
