ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, November 12. The death occurred at the Auckland Hospital this afternoon of Darnel O’Keefe, aged 72 years, who received serious injuries last • evening through being knocked down by a motor bus at the foot of Khyber Pass road. O Keefe was walking on the road, and was knocked down by an Otabuhu bus, driven by Harry M'MuJlon. the vehicle was travelling toward the city. The injured man was removed to the hospital in a serious condition, Buffering from injuries to the head. A CAR OVERTURNS. (Peb United Pebss Association.) PUKEKOHE, November 12. An accident occurred at Suicide Point, Hunua Gorge, near Papakura, in the forenoon to-day. The party in the car consisted of Messrs J. N. Anderson, assistant engineer to the 1’ ranklin County, Pukekohe; V. R. Soper, earner. Papakura; and Cliff Ross, farmer. They were inspecting a huge slip in the gorge when the vehicle turned round for some unaccountable reason, and precipated the occupants over the treacherous elm. Mr Soper sustained an injury to the back, but the others had a miraculous escape, and received only cuts and bruises. The car was badly damaged. A BOATING MISHAP. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, November 12. A mishap which might have had a serious result occurred this morning just before 7 o’clock. Charles Shand Insley was rowing in the direction of Petone, when he got caught in the wash of the Wahine as that vessel was berthing. The skiff capsized, and Insley was thrown into the water. Four boats were lowered, two from hulks «uicl one by the Harbour Board’s pilot staff, and the emergency boat of the Wahine, and he was picked up before anything serious happened. He was about 200 yards from the ship when the accident occurred.

CHRISTCHURCH, November 12. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., to-day adjourned till Monday the inquest concerning the death of the woman Loita Jacobs, who ■was found clead in Hagley Park yesterday A post mortem examination will be held. INJURIES TO LEG. Thomas M'Auliffe received injuries to his right leg yesterday morning while engaged in shunting operations in the railway goods yard. ' The accident was due to a truck striking him. He was admitted to the Hospital at 10.40 a.m.. and was operated on in the afternoon. ’ The injured man is 23 years of age, and resides at 69 Nelson street. South Dunedin.

TOMAHAWK BEACH FATALITY. So far no trace of the body of Henry Stephen Baker, who was drowned at Tomahawk'on Sunday last, has been discovered. Regarding the attempts at rescue, further inquiry has elicited the fact that Mr George M'Curdy, of St. Hilda, was associated with Mr A. Wootton in bringing Messrs R. Cox and J. M'Kewen to safety when they were on the verge of collapse. BODY WASHED ASHORE. THE CORONER’S VERDICT. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 12. An inquest concerning the death of Frank Randall, whose body was washed up on the embankment off Point Resolution on November 4, was concluded before Mr W. R. M'Kean, S.M.. coroner. Albert Metcalf, an able seaman cn the Matangi, said he saw deceased on board the vessel on the evening of November 3 when she was about to sail for Tauranga. Deceased was leaning over the rail and produced a bottle of whisky asking witness if he would like a drink Deceased appeared to be the worse of liquor, and looked worried. When the Matangi pulled out from the Central wharf deceased was still hanging over the rail. Witness had another drink with uini, and then said good-night. There was nothing to make him think deceased wouM commit suicide. , , , , Lloyd Hodges, a bedroom steward on the Matangi, said a ticket had been issued to a man under the name of F. Roberts. The berth had not been occupied. A constable said that four fo notes were found in deceased’s clothing. In returning a verdict of death by drowning, the Coroner said there was nothing to indicate how deceased fell into the water, or that he committed suicide. The evidence disclosed that he had booked a passage under another name.
