FLOOD AT LEVUKA.

A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. SERIOUS DAMAGE REPORTED. (Pbb United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, October 5. A disastrous flood occurred at Levuka (Fiji) on September 24. In an hour and a-half 7in of rain fell, and a torrent of water from the mountain behind the town carried everything before it. It flooded all the business places along the waterfront and smashed two concrete bridges in the main street, rendering the water supply useless. It smashed two swimming baths, and many premises were flooded from 2ft to 4ft. Property belonging to the municipality was damaged to the extent of £SOOO. The Burns Philp Shipping Company estimates its loss at £3OOO. Many houses were damaged, and altogether five bridges were washed away. _ During the downpour most of the residents went about in shorts and bathing costumes. The total damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.
